Povoa de Varzim Castle

Built on a rocky massif of Monte Pilar, its construction is not due to the will of any king, It is common with, but the archbishop of Braga, around 1071, for defense of the episcopal.


This site had human occupation since the Chalcolithic period and also the Romans endowed with a fortification, the archbishop of the castle have been improved in the reign of D. Afonso Henriques, going to have Tower of Homage.

The castle is classified as a National Monument, has benefited from reconstruction and restoration works, keeping as the main witness of the past, Torre de Menagem.
